Ronnie Barnes - educator, scientist, practitioner and businessman. Since graduating in 1974 from East Carolina University, where he is a member the school's Hall of Fame and has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus, Barnes has been a steady leader. He has excelled in the profession, earning numerous accolades: NATA Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year twice; member of the NATA Board of Certification for 10 years; NATA Distinguished Athletic Trainer; Tim Kerin Award for Excellence in Athletic Training; president of Michigan Athletic Trainers' Society; president of NATA Research and Education Foundation; and president of the Professional Football Athletic Trainers' Society. He worked as an athletic trainer for East Carolina University, Michigan State University and, since 1980, as the head athletic trainer for the New York Football Giants, a storied NFL franchise. His civic contributions to the NFL and NATA are extensive. He has published in academic journals and textbooks and is a founder of a 50-clinic physical therapy chain, as well as an international lecturer.
